About The Craic?
It didnt happen over night.....
It was sort of an evolution - I cant even really remember exactly when WhiskeyCraic really came to life.
I've always drank whiskey, right back to my mid teens ("I'm 18, honestly officer") and was very aware that after 20 odd years, I had very much fallen into a rut, buying the same half dozen bottles (Jamesons, Cardhu, Bushmills, Famouse Grouse, Woodford Reserve etc).
The time line gets a bit fuzzy here......
(but never let the details get in the way of a good story)
I dont know what drove me to it, but one night, I joined a few facebook groups on whiskey / whisky / bourbon.
People from all round the world chatting about what they were drinking and deals they had seen / bottles they had bought.
I started buying.... I started trying..... I also started reading and researching....
At some point I set up an instagram account, to see what the whiskey community was talking about on there.... and then I started messing around with TikTok as well.....
Three very different communities - but all good fun
Did I mention that by around this time - my whiskey collection had grown to well over 100 bottles? It was around this time I started messing around with Whiskey Tastings and Reviews Videos.
I'd also started dabbling a little in whiskey bottle investing as well....
But I started to notice something about some of the facebook communitites I was in..... Dont get me wrong - Im still in them, but there was 2 little niggles I had about them.
1 - There are a lot of "Judgemental Dicks" on social media. Particularly in some of the facebook groups. A lot of snobbery and nastiness.
I remember in particular one night, a guy in India had a small collection of bottles, nothing too fancy, but you could tell he was proud, and so he should be, he's worked hard to save up some money to buy a few bottles. Bottles that in Europe or USA that wouldnt be expensive, but relatively to him in India, may well have been. Anyway - a few people started being mean on his post, and it was just plain shitty.
Then you get the other dicks commenting things on peoples post like -
"Too Much Ice" , "You shouldnt have a mixer" , "Wrong type of glass".
In essence - a whole load of snobbery.Ive always been of the opinion - If you bought the drink, drink it whatever the hell way you want. No judgement.
2 - With a lot of the big groups - there are people from all around the world, which is great, but I really wanted a UK and Ireland members group as well (so we could share deals and discounts) - and..... well the rest is history.
Dont know what else to tell you.
Mainly its a hobby, just for fun, distraction in COVID lockdown thats sortof took a life of its own......
I have a day job as well - but thats nowhere near as fun......
